Trivia Question❓

During Palmdale Eats 2026, how many restaurant stamps were needed on a Palmdale Eats Passport to qualify for the top $100 Shop Palmdale Community Card reward?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

KFC has rolled out a new snack-sized menu item called the Go Bucket, and Antelope Valley diners now have another quick option to watch for at local KFC locations.

The new cupholder-friendly buckets start at about $3.49 and pair one chicken choice — four nuggets, two wings, or one tender — with fries or potato wedges. That makes six combinations built more for an afternoon snack or quick bite than a full meal.

For AV customers, the appeal is simple: smaller portion, lower starting price, and something designed to eat on the go. Prices and participation can vary by location, so check the menu at your nearest Lancaster or Palmdale KFC before heading over.

Halloween has hit the doughnut case. Krispy Kreme has teamed up with Looney Tunes for a limited-time collection featuring Bugs Bunny, Tweety & Sylvester, Taz, and Lola Bunny.

The lineup includes a chocolate-filled Bugs Bunny doughnut, a candy-corn-inspired Tweety & Sylvester version, an OREO-filled Taz doughnut, and a purple buttercreme Lola Bunny creation. The collection launched October 6 at participating shops nationwide, with select six-packs also appearing at retail partners.

For Antelope Valley readers, this is a fun seasonal treat to look for during October. Availability will vary, especially at retail partners, so it is worth checking before making a special trip.

Starbucks has added a new permanent espresso drink to its menu: the Aerocano, a modern take on the iced Americano made with air-whipped Blonde Espresso for a velvety, frothy texture.

There are two versions — the standard Aerocano and a sweeter Caramel Aerocano. Food Republic's taste test preferred the caramel version, saying the sweetness helped balance the bitterness they noticed in the regular drink.

The drinks launched September 29 and joined the core menu, so AV Starbucks customers should have time to decide whether the extra texture is worth the higher price compared with a classic iced Americano. Local pricing may vary by store.

Palmdale Eats 2026 wrapped up October 4, but there is still one important deadline for anyone who collected Passport stamps during the restaurant celebration.

Completed Passports can be turned in through October 29 at Palmdale's Development Services Building, 38250 Sierra Highway. Antelope Valley Winery & Brewery has two easy food-and-drink outings on the calendar this week.

On Friday, October 16 from 5:30–8:30 p.m., J Dee Bolden brings live jazz to the winery for an evening built around music, drinks, and a relaxed Barrel Room atmosphere.

Chipotle remains a popular fast-casual option, including here in the Antelope Valley, but some customers are questioning the value of certain add-ons and menu items.

A recent Tasting Table roundup looked at customer complaints around prices for items such as quesadillas, guacamole, queso, and premium proteins. The article uses sample prices from multiple markets, so the exact numbers will not necessarily match AV stores, but the broader question is familiar: when does customization stop feeling like a good deal?

If Chipotle is in your regular rotation, it may be worth comparing the final price of your usual build with local independent Mexican restaurants before your next order.

This week’s sponsor spotlight features Katz-N Jammers, one of Lancaster’s classic hometown diner experiences and a longtime local favorite for breakfast, lunch, coffee, shakes, and comfort food.

Katz-N Jammers is not trying to be a trendy chain café — and that is exactly the appeal. The restaurant leans into a true 1950s diner atmosphere with vintage memorabilia, hanging records, an old-school counter, a working jukebox, and plenty of nostalgia.

The menu is built around familiar American diner favorites. Popular choices include biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs, crispy hash browns, French toast, bacon, burgers, sandwiches, milkshakes, and specialty sodas like the Lime Ricki. Portions are generous, and the staff is frequently praised for being friendly, hardworking, and welcoming.

Local Bites Take: Katz-N Jammers is a Lancaster classic worth supporting. It combines comfort food, retro character, and the kind of personal service that independent diners do best.

Best for: Breakfast, brunch, family meals, comfort food, shakes, specialty sodas, and anyone who appreciates a true neighborhood diner.

October is exactly when a pot of chili starts sounding right, and this Pumpkin & Turkey Chili adds a seasonal twist without turning dinner into dessert.

The recipe combines ground turkey, fire-roasted tomatoes, pumpkin puree, black beans, peppers, garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cayenne. It simmers into a hearty, smoky bowl that can be topped with cilantro, avocado, jalapeño, and pumpkin seeds.

It serves eight and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes from start to finish. Better yet, the flavors improve after sitting, making it a good make-ahead meal for a busy weeknight or Sunday gathering.

Ribeye and New York strip get most of the attention, but budget-conscious grocery shoppers may want to look for flap steak, also known as bavette.

The cut comes from the abdomen and offers a deeply beefy flavor with relatively little waste compared with steaks that require trimming around thick fat caps or gristle. It is also typically less expensive than premium cuts and works well for fajitas, steak sandwiches, stir-fries, tacos, or a platter of sliced steak for a crowd.

Because the muscle fibers are large, marinating helps with moisture and tenderness. Cook it hot, let it rest, then slice against the grain for the best texture.

October gives local restaurants an unusually easy marketing calendar. National Pizza Month, Chili Month, Pasta Month, Seafood Month, Dessert Day, Pasta Day, Halloween and dozens of food observances give operators ready-made reasons to promote something.

For AV restaurants, five simple plays stand out: create one limited-time fall item, build a weekday special around a food holiday, photograph that item for social media, email or text past customers about it, and pair the promotion with a review or loyalty request.

The point is not to celebrate every food holiday. Pick the two or three that actually fit your menu and give customers a reason to come in now.
